Madison Cawthorn is a telegenic pro-Trump Republican running in a solidly GOP North Carolina district. And yet the youngest member of Congress is facing a fight to get re-elected. Cawthorn, 26, had been a rising star in the Republican Party. But since taking office in 2020, he's also been a magnet for scrutiny and criticism over his statements, social media posts and run-ins with authorities. North Carolina's senior senator, Richard Burr has called Cawthorn an "embarrassment at times." In rapid succession, Mr. Cawthorn, who entered Congress as a rising star of the party's far right, has been accused of falsely suggesting that his Republican colleagues routinely throw cocaine-fueled orgies, insider trading and an inappropriate relationship with a male aide. Cawthorn, who is partially paralyzed as the result of a car crash, several times has been cited for traffic violations since being elected and twice has been stopped for trying to bring a loaded handgun through airport security. At a town-hall event in March, he called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy a "thug" and said the country's government is "incredibly corrupt and it is incredibly evil." That angered many of his Republican colleagues in Congress and drew a rebuke from House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy. Despite his obscured political stance, for US president Donald Trump still sees him as the best candidate. He said: "At 18 years of age, Madison Cawthorn, the now 26 year old Congressman from the Great State of North Carolina, went through a life changing event the likes of which, fortunately, few people will ever have to endure," Trump said in reference to the car crash Cawthorn was involved in when he was 18 which left him paralyzed. "In just seconds, he lost the use of the lower half of his body, a traumatic experience to say the least. When Madison was first elected to Congress, he did a great job. Recently, he made some foolish mistakes, which I don't believe he'll make again...let's give Madison a second chance!" However, the congressmen want a new political stance. They want someone who can push the political views of the people. Trump may have endorsed Cawthorn but his political stance is different from the public which makes things difficult for him.

Winning the Social Media War outlines how conservatives in the United States ceded the culture war to the left and provides a playbook with techniques on how to effectively win back influence over the culture through the use of social media. Through novel interviews, independent research, and case studies of particular accounts and individuals, Alex Bruesewitz threads together conceptual and mechanical ways of engaging with and using social media for maximum impact and influence. Winning the Social Media War reveals why conservatives lose to the left on social media and provides a tool kit to turn the tide back toward conservatism. Whether you are seeking to advance your personal social media status or that of a candidate, organization, brand, or movement, you will benefit from the collective years of experience of influential conservative figures. This book is required reading for conservatives aiming to stand athwart history yelling, “Stop!” with the amplitude that people—and God-willing, the nation—can actually hear.

Written by a clinical and forensic psychologist, Marse: A Psychological Portrait of the American Southern White Elite Slave Master and His Endurig Impact focuses on the white men who composed the southern planter class. The book is a psychological autopsy of the mind and slaveholding behavior that helps explain the enduring roots of white supremacy and the hidden wound of racist slavery that continues to affect all Americans today. Marse details and illuminates examples of the psychological mechanisms by which southern slave masters justified owning another human being as property and how they formed a society in which it was morally acceptable. Kirkpatrick uses forensic psychology to analyze the personality formation, defense mechanisms, and psychopathologies of slave masters. Their delusional beliefs and assumptions about black Africans extended to a forceful cohort of white slaveholding women, and they twisted Christianity to promote slavery as a positive good. He examines the masters’ stress and fears, and how they developed psychologically fatal, slavery-specific defense mechanisms to cope. Through sources such as diaries, letters, autobiographies, and sermons, Marse describes the ways in which slaveholders created a delusional worldview that sanctioned cruel instruments of punishment, and the laws and social policies of domination used to rob Blacks of their human rights. In light of the seismic shift in race relations our nation is experiencing right now, this book is timely because it will advance our understanding of the South’s self-defeating romance with racist slavery and its latent and chronic effects. The parallels between the psychology of antebellum slaveholding and today’s racism are palpable.
